Deborah L. Willemsma

Debbie has owned and ridden horses, and competed in horse events ever since she was very young. She graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and has been employed in the horse industry ever since. She has worked on, and trained for some big horse farms such as Buena Suerte Ranch, Lazy E Ranch and Rocking RB Barrel Horses. For the past 20 years she has worked as a Veterinary Technician at two Equine Surgical and Lameness Clinics in Oklahoma.

Debbie’s passion is training horses. She has been training barrel horses for 30 years. She has qualified for and shown her horses at the AQHA World Finals, Better Barrel Racing World Finals, and NBHA State Finals several years.

Debbie is married to John Willemsma, a Saddlemaker, who is a member of the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association. They have two married children and a granddaughter, who all share Debbie’s and John’s passion for horses and the western lifestyle.

Debbie and John fell in love with the Wet Mountain Valley, and recently moved here from Oklahoma. She is very interested in helping girls in the valley with their horsemanship skills, and is very willing to share her knowledge of barrel horse training. She has, and will continue to put on Barrel Jackpots in Westcliffe, and was a judge for this years’ Wet Mt Valley Saddle Club Queen contest.

Debbie has been employed by the ranch since July, 2016, and is very happy to be a part of A Painted View Ranch.
